Kollock family papers, 1640-1929 (bulk 1861).

The collection includes the papers of Cornelius Kollock, his son, Charles W. Kollock and copies of the wills of Henrietta Shaw Kollock's ancestors. The papers begin with typed copies of the wills of Anthony Shaw (1640) and Daniel Shaw (1811), ancestors of Henrietta Shaw Kollock and a handwritten copy of Francis Lescot's will dated 1752 and authenticated by T.W. Pinckney. Cornelius Kollock's papers include two certificates from the Boston Society of Natural History and a series of Civil War period letters. The Civil War period letters are from Cornelius Kollock to his wife, Henrietta, and begin on June 15, 1861 with a description of his trip by train to Richmond, Va. The subsequent letters, written during a three month stay in Virginia describe the events surrounding the first battle of Manassas (1861 July 21) and the medical care of soldiers on both sides. Charles W. Kollock's papers document Kollock's involvement in various South Carolina militia units, including the Charleston Light Dragoons; a payroll (1902) of the S.C. Cavalry, 1st Regiment; Kollock's pass book (1901-1902) for S.C. Inter-state and West-Indian Exposition, and an invitation to Charles W. Kollock for a banquet (1902 April 8) for President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) given by the City of Charleston. The collection also includes a handwritten sermon delivered by Rev. Samuel Gilman (1791-1858) in 1849.
